MORE THAN JUST EXCITING HAIR:

Steve Wheeler is an accomplished media composer with credits in television, film and video games. Some places that have used his music: NCAA March Madness, NFL Football (including Super Bowl LIV’s pregame), the PGA Tour, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and many more.

Always looking for new frontiers in music, Steve has spent decades studying and honing his craft. This led to him studying at the University of Miami where he was an ASCAP Foundation Henry Mancini Music Fellow, earning a Master’s degree in Media Writing and Production. Previously, he earned his Bachelor’s in Studio Composition at the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase College. It was at these institutions that he got to study with masters of their craft such as Raul Murciano Jr., Allyson Bellink, Joel Thome, Richie Morales, Gary Lindsay, and many others.

As a composer, Steve loves the countless ways that music can express an idea. From the gentlest solo line to a full-on raging torrent of sound – acoustic or synthetic – it is this dynamic contrast and depth that makes music so fascinating to him. When setting this music to media, it takes on a whole new life for him, adding additional meaning to both the music and the media it’s set in.

In 2012, Steve began working at Full Sail University as Associate Course Director, teaching many different courses in the Music Production program. In 2018, he took on the role of Course Director for the Music Production for Media course.

While music is his passion, he also enjoys engaging with new technologies and working them into his music. Steve has experience scripting Kontakt instruments with KSP, programming touchscreen DAW interfaces in Lemur and TouchOSC, and designing and building websites (like this one).
